Success Stories

Dear Guardian Angels of the RCHS,
I am writing to thank you for all the love and care that you have ALL given to my [pets]. Things have been very hard and starting over is never easy, but knowing that [my pets] have been safe has eased my burden tremendously.  As you know, my abuser didn't just abuse me.  Once I was away from him, he neglected my pets so that they were in very poor shape by the time I got them into your safe house program.  Your volunteers are guardians of the most vulnerable of us all.  The loving families who are caring for [my pets] are living saints.  I owe them and all of you a life of debt.  I want to thank you for all that you have done for me and [my pets].  I will be eternally grateful.

Although I needed to leave my home due to domestic violence and sexual assault, I was reluctant to go because I didn't want to leave my dog.  She was also suffering from abuse from my batterer. The Rancho Coastal Humane Society's program is a God send.  My dog had done great in their program and I have less stress and worry and am to spend more time on my program. If Rancho Coastal Humane Society had not provided a safe home for my dog, I truly believe I wouldn't be here.  Words cannot describe the appreciation I have for the service they have provided to my dog and myself.

A year and a half ago my mom's boyfriend beat her up and we had to move to a domestic violence center.  I was scared that Bubba would not have a home to go to.  Rancho Coastal was very nice to Bubba and took good care of him.  When my mom and I moved into our new home I was so glad to have Bubba back.

With the knowledge of your service, I felt totally at ease leaving my living situation and knowing they would be cared for with love and respect. Your service is very unique and I hope one that can grow to help more people escape abuse. There is nothing more unnerving than leaving an animal that you adore and love in a situation that can harm them. We owe you our lives. I am thankful, grateful and humbled.

After my ex-husband pushed me down and fractured my back, I had to find a shelter situation so he wouldn't come after me again.  My daughter and I were able to find a place, but not for my cat.  The shelter referred me to the Rancho Coastal Safe House Program and they took my cat in without hesitation. When we found transitional housing we were able to have our cat move in with us.  My daughter and I are so grateful and we truly appreciate the kindness of the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

On behalf of my family, we would like to thank the Rancho Coastal Humane Society Animal Safehouse Program for making a very difficult time in our life a lot easier.  This was especially hard for my three children. Knowing how well our pets were taken care of and how accommodating the staff was every time we came to visit gave us peace of mind.   I don't know who we will ever be able to thank you enough.

You have saved my life and my heart by caring for my beautiful babies.  You gave them a wonderful, safe place to stay and I am so impressed.  They all look happy an relaxed.  There really are no words to tell you how grateful I am.  My brief troubled times are soon to end, but I will never forget that you gave me peace of mind knowing that they are safe.

It is a pleasure to extend my continued support for Rancho Coastal Humane Society's Animal Safehouse Program.  The Animal Safehouse Program is essential to San Diego County in that it allows pets a safe place ot stay while their owner is living in an emergency shelter. Many times, victims of domestic violence do not leave a dangerous situation because they are unable to take their pet with them.
As a domestic violence provider, we have been able to utilize the Animal Safehouse Program for pet owners who were referred from our Domestic Violence Response Team and our Hotline.  In all instances, the women were able to have a safe place for their pets.  We have received an amazingly positive response from  our clients and their children.
In addition, Rancho Coastal Humane Society has offered training to our agency staff in regards to animal abuse and domestic violence.  This has been an excellent resource for us.
South bay Community Services continues to support Rancho Coastal Humane Society's effort to provide services in this area, as well as their dedication in helping break the cycle of violence.

The Ranch Coastal Humane Society has provided excellent support services to Libre domestic violence clients.  The staff has been very warm and accommodating to our clients and their pets.  Prior to the knowledge of the Animal Safehouse Program, many clients refused to leave their violent situation because they were afraid of what would happen to their pet if they left the home.  This resource has helped numerous clients be able to leave the violence in their home without worrying about the safety of their pets. it is an excellent program that is helping women, children and their pets make the transition to safety much less stressful.

I am writing to thank Rancho Coastal Humane Society's Animal Safehouse Program for the important service it provides to the many clients of the YWCA of San Diego's emergency domestic violence shelter, Casa de Paz.  Our 24 hours domestic violence hotline receives over 4,000 calls per year.  Many of the victims that are calling to find shelter from an abusive relationship have pets in the home that are also abused. Domestic Violence shelters are unable to allow animals due to the communal living aspect.  If this program didn't exist, many victims may choose to stay in an abusive relationship rather than leave their pet.
After leaving the home and going into shelter, a family is still in crisis. Often they feel that they have lost everything.  Visiting their pet in the Animal Safehouse Program gives them a  feeling of security and hope that in the future they will be able to rebuild their lives. This program is a great asset to the domestic violence services of San Diego County.

We greatly appreciate the wonderful work being done by the Rancho Coast Humane Society Animal Safehouse Program.  May of the victims residing in our 28 day domestic violence shelter find themselves unable to leave an abusive relationship when they must leave a beloved pet behind. We are grateful that your program understands and advocates for the victims that can't speak or defend themselves.
Our residents have expressed their sincere gratitude for this program that has allowed their entire family the opportunity to be free of violence.
The Rancho Coast Humane Society Animal Safehouse Program is a great asset to all victims with pets.  We continue to look forward to our collaboration and support the services your program provides to all victims.

I would like to extend my ongoing appreciation from the services you provide in temporary housing for animals not able to reside in human shelters.  I work with ECS Homeless Housing and Supportive Services programs which include transitional housing for families exiting domestic violence shelters. The families are working to find some level of safety and stability for all family members and comfort in knowing that animals can be cared for by your program eliminates one of the many barriers they encounter.
Without you program, the clients we serve are faced with increased challenges that prevent them from move to safe environments.  I am so thankful that you are around.
